Speech Sound Disorders

A speech sound disorder is when your child either says sounds incorrectly, or omits sounds from words.  This can be diagnosed as articulation disorder, phonological disorder, or childhood apraxia of speech depending on the symptoms.  Your clinician will use different approaches based on the type of speech sound disorder to help your child make progress.

Feeding Therapy

There are a wide variety of feeding difficulties that a child may present with.  Bottle feeding, transitioning to solids, chewing, picky eating and more can be treated by a qualified speech-language pathologist.

Language Disorders

Expressive language disorder or delay is when your child has trouble using language to communicate efficiently.  A receptive language disorder or delay is when your child has difficulty understanding spoken language.

Literacy

If your child is struggling to learn to read, a Speech-Language Pathologist is highly and uniquely qualified to provide treatment.

AAC Device Use

AAC, or Augmentative and Alternative Communication, is any type of communication besides speaking that a person uses to communicate.  For some children, this includes speech generating devices, or AAC devices.  Your clinician can help teach your child to use their device to communicate.  Parent training is a very important component of AAC use!

Assessments

Currently, BPST is providing assessments in the areas of speech sound disorders, language disorders, feeding, and literacy.  AAC evaluations coming soon!

So, how do we get started?

You've probably been thinking about speech therapy for your child for awhile now, and you are eager to get started.  Simply send me an email with some basic information--your child's name, and age, and your main concerns.  I'll respond with some questions to gain more background information and to determine if we are a good client-clinician fit.  From there, we will discuss your preferred payment method, and schedule a first session!  Sessions can be completed in our new office located at 3002 G.E. Road, Suite 2, in Bloomington, IL.
